‘I was immediately in all states’

Very nice, those playdates. Until it becomes known that they could have brought more new ‘friends’ with them.

Janet (36): “A child came to play with Lieke (7) that I had not seen before. She hadn’t been at our school that long and our daughter thought she was funny. Immediately after entering, the two of them disappeared upstairs to build a tent with just about all the cuddly toys and all the bedding that Lieke has.

The two of them sat there giggling for hours, until the girl’s mother came to pick up her daughter. She came across as very friendly to me. “Did you see Sophie scratching?” she asked. I looked at her questioningly. “On her head,” she clarified. “We can’t get rid of that damn head lice.”

“It makes me itch again when I talk about it”

I was immediately in all states. Head lice? Why do you let a child with head lice play with another child? I got quite angry and jumped in the car for lice shampoo less than a minute after she left. That evening I shampooed Lieke’s hair and washed all the bedding and all the cuddly toys, better safe than sorry. We didn’t see any lice, by the way, but when I talk about it, I get itchy again.”
