“I stamped on the ground and imitated her crying: ‘Boo-hoo, howl, howl!'”

Even the most tolerant mother loses her temper after weeks of hysterical screaming, kicking and endless crying.

Anna (38), mother of Sam (3):

“It was a day in toddler hell. In the morning Sam had hysterically shrieked the swimming pool, then she screamed at the supermarket for not allowing her to open the dessert in advance and at home she threw the clean, freshly folded laundry on the floor, while she gave me a teasing look.

A day in toddler hell

A ball of fire billowed from my toes. A feeling I’ve rarely experienced. Furious, I strode over to Sam and pulled the pillowcase she was dragging across the floor from her hands. Startled, she began to cry. ‘Are you really going to cry now? Well, I don’t care ONE FUCK!’ I screamed. I stamped on the ground and imitated her crying: “Boo-hoo, howl howl!”

My daughter looked at me in bewilderment. Her sudden calm brought me back to my senses. I went through the ground, I looked like a crazy moron. I took her on my lap, said sorry a thousand times and still opened the dessert as a consolation. Sam sometimes talks about it: ‘Mommy very angry, waaaaaah!’ And then she mimics the sound of a growling monster.”

Now it is ready

Loes (29), mother of Dex (4):

“I screamed out loud GAYLORD! to my son when he kept kicking my chair leg and I had already told him a dozen times to stop. How I came up with that word is still a mystery to me. But it tasted good.”

And then you hear it back

Brechtje (42), mother of Cas (10), Lotte (8) and Fien (4):

“I have once yelled at my children so loudly that I was still hoarse a day later. Last week I threw their plates on the floor because they wouldn’t eat. And I use a certain swear word so often that yesterday I heard singing from the back seat: ‘Gottedomme, gottedomme’ to the tune of Father Jacob. I was embarrassed, but I also laughed. Mama is only human.”
