Huawei Mate X2 is a folding novelty with Galaxy Fold design and TOP equipment
Huawei Mate X2 is the latest folding model from the Chinese manufacturer and a direct successor to the Mate Xs model. We had the opportunity to test it and bring a full review: Review Huawei Mate Xs: Do extremely expensive folding smartphones make sense? New and at the same time old design
The biggest change is visible at first glance. While previous folding models from Huawei closed so that the display was outside when closed, this is not the case now. The advantage of the new solution is that the folding display remains protected in the closed state. Outside there is a classic (non-folding) glass display.
Looking at the photos, there is a strong resemblance to the Galaxy Z Fold2. The camera area, in turn, resembles the famous Huawei flagship device. When it comes to equipment, you can prepare for the best.
The performance will be taken care of by a powerful 5 nm Kirin 9000 processor, which we had the opportunity to test in the Huawei Mate 40 Pro. It boasts an integrated 5G modem and very low power consumption. The processor is complemented by 8 GB of RAM. As for storage, there are two versions ready – 256 GB or 512 GB. Memory card support is questionable. If they are supported, it is probably the NanoMemory format directly from Huawei.
Two high quality 90 Hz displays
The most important parameter is, of course, the display. The main one (folding) has a diagonal of 8 ″, a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels. Of course, the display is not protected by any cover glass and is prone to scratches.
The external OLED display received a diagonal of 6.45 ″, a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a resolution of 2700 x 1160 pixels.
Huawei Mate X2 with top cameras
There are up to four sensors on the back. The main one is a 50 MP lens with f / 1.9 aperture and optical image stabilization. The ultra-wide sensor received a resolution of 16 MP and a brightness of f / 2.2. The approach capabilities of the novelty will be among the absolute top.
Specifically, there is a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a periscope lens with 10x zoom. We had the opportunity to see a similar set in the competing Galaxy S21 Ultra, but also the Mate 40 Pro + or P40 Pro +. However, these two models did not reach the Slovak market. The last to the game is a 16 MP selfie sensor with an aperture of f / 2.2.
The battery offers a capacity of 4500 mAh. That’s not much at first glance, but Huawei can surprise with endurance. In addition, there is no lack of fast cable charging with a power of 55 W, so charging the device from 0 to 100% will be very fast. The absence of Google services will freeze.
Price and availability
Of course, there is also support for NFC, Bluetooth version 5.2 and USB-C, the fingerprint reader is located on the side of the smartphone. The price of the model with 256 GB storage is set at 17999 yuan (2298 €). The 512 GB version costs 18999 yuan (2425 €).

Competition
The biggest and probably the only competitor is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2, but the South Korean manufacturer is already preparing its successor. Z Fold2 offers a very similar design and display with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The zoom capabilities of the camera are on the side of Huawei, both models will be among the top in terms of photo quality.
Huawei offers faster charging, Samsung in turn 12 GB RAM. The official price of the Galaxy Z Fold2 is 1999 euros, but it can also be obtained significantly cheaper.
