For the Chinese company Huawei, the air is now getting thinner in Germany too. The federal government is examining a ban on certain components that are used in the 5G network expansion in Germany. In other countries, Huawei is already facing closed doors because of fears of espionage.

Huawei: Possible component ban in Germany

Other countries have already taken the step, now it could be Germany’s turn. According to media reports, the Interior Ministry is planning Ban on “critical components” from Chinese manufacturers. Even if Huawei is not explicitly mentioned here, the group would be hit particularly hard by a possible exclusion.

Germany could proceed even more rigorously and demand that components already installed must be removed from the 5G networks again by Huawei. This could be the case if, according to the Ministry of the Interior, “public order or security” is threatened if manufacturers are judged to be untrustworthy (source: Handelsblatt).

the Network operator in Germany are currently using Huawei products. According to Telekom, Vodafone and Telefónica (o2), however, Huawei components are not used in critical infrastructure, but are only used in radio masts, for example. Huawei is considered the world’s largest equipment supplier in the field of telecommunications.

Huawei also makes notebooks, like the MateBook D16:

In some countries, such as the US and UK, the use of Huawei components in telecommunications networks now banned. The USA has also punished Huawei with extensive sanctions. American companies are prohibited from doing business with Huawei.

Criticism of Huawei is getting louder

Critical voices about the use of Huawei products in mobile networks have recently become louder again. According to the deputy FDP parliamentary group leader Konstantin Kuhle, Germany would “unworldly and naive” act if it underestimates Huawei’s activities and the associated influence of China.
