Honor expects to resume relations with Google soon

Chinese brand Honor may not use Google services and applications, including the Google Play store, under its previous owner, Huawei. After selling it to the new owner, she solved this situation and according to the portal AndroidAuthority expects to resume relations with Google soon.

Honor also suffered along with Huawei

The whole case of Huawei vs USA started more than a year and a half ago. A ban on the sale of US technology to Huawei was announced by the US Department of Commerce in May 2019. The reason was allegations of espionage in favor of the Chinese government by the US secret services. Whether the allegations were true or the reason was Donald Trump’s trade war with China, it posed several problems for Huawei. Most serious was the loss of Google’s certification for the manufacturer’s new smartphones. And because the ban also applied to its stand-alone Honor brand, its smartphones came to the market without Google services, Google applications and especially the Google Play store.

The CEO of the brand confirmed the negotiations with Google

The change of ownership in November last year tied the Honor brand’s hands and could resume trading with American companies. The agreement with the American chip manufacturer Qualcomm to use its chips, which will replace the Kirin chips from Huawei, is basically ready. He also partnered with Intel, MediaTek and AMD. But the most important news now has been revealed by Honor CEO George Zhao. To the question of the portal South China Morning Post , whether future Honor smartphones will have Google applications, he replied unequivocally. Honor is in advanced negotiations with Google and the agreement should be reached soon. He also answered the question of whether he is not afraid that Honor will receive the same ban as Huawei alone.

There is no reason to impose similar restrictions on a regular consumer electronics company. We comply with worldwide trade laws, including intellectual property payments, tax payments, etc. We have an office to ensure compliance with every legal system.

George Zhao, CEO of Honor

It is still questionable whether Google applications with the Google play store will also reach the recently introduced flagship smartphone Honor V40. It has so far been launched on the Chinese market without them and the company has not confirmed whether it will be included in its global version. Although Honor’s CEO did not answer this, he confirmed that the brand wants to attack the market positions of Huawei and Apple in the future.
