Do you have a Chromecast with Google TV and a Nest camera at home? Then you can stream the live feed from the Nest camera directly to your Chromecast with Google TV. That’s how you do that.

Stream live images from your Nest device to your TV

You can now see from the couch what is happening in and around your home. Below you will find the devices you need for this. The possibility has been available for the Nest Hello for a while, and recently also for the new smart devices that Google announced in 2021.

The Chromecast with Google TV is the latest version of the Chromecast and can turn any ‘dumb’ TV into a smart TV. You can use this dongle to stream all kinds of things to your TV from your phone, such as apps, games, music, websites, and movies and series. This is also known as ‘casting’. You plug the Chomecast into the HDMI port on your TV, connect the device to your WiFi network and you can get started right away. So you can also stream the images from your Nest camera and that is very simple.

That is how it works

You can stream the images to your TV in two ways. Via the remote control that comes with the Chromecast with Google TV or via the Google Assistant on your smart speaker or your phone.

1. Enable the Chromecast with Google TV
2. Ask the Chromecast Voice Remote or a speaker or smartphone with Google Assistant: “Hey Google, let [cameranaam] see on [naam Chromecast met Google TV-apparaat]”

Streaming the live images works perfectly here at the editors, but there is a small delay. In any case, the function works well and can certainly be useful in some circumstances. It’s a one-way street, by the way, you can’t talk to the people you see on the images. You can of course do this via the Nest or Google Home app.
