Have iPhone 13 screen replaced by a third party? Do not do it

Is the screen of your iPhone 13 (Pro) shattered? It can be tempting to have the display replaced at a third party, because that is a lot cheaper than at Apple. But that doesn’t seem like a good idea…

iPhone 13 screen replacement

Popular YouTube channel Phone Repair Guru shows in a video that you probably won’t be able to replace the iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 Pro screen without losing support for Face ID. The only way you can still unlock your iPhone is to enter the passcode.

The YouTuber shows that when you replace the microphone, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor, everything works as expected. But if you place a non-original screen in it, you will receive a message: Important Display Message. Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple Display.

Phone Repair Guru says there are ways to make Face ID still work, such as transferring a chip to the new display. However, the YouTuber expects that most repair shops won’t do this because it would be too advanced.

Or from an authorized service provider

By the way, you can also have the screen repair performed by an Apple-authorized service provider. These include Amac and Coolblue. They have the original components and can carry out the repair in a good way.

In recent years there has been a lot of fuss about Apple’s repair policy. The tech giant is trying to discourage iPhone users from going to a repairer other than Apple (or an authorized service provider). According to Apple, this is for security reasons; untrained technicians may not follow all safety procedures, which could result in product malfunction.
