Handy: WhatsApp will soon convert voice messages into text

Voice messages in WhatsApp: not everyone likes to receive them. Soon that will get better, because the popular messaging service comes with a function that converts audio messages into text!

Read on after the ad.

Convert voice messages to typed text in WhatsApp

This is evident from a beta version of WhatsApp, discovered by WABetaInfo. In it is a transcription function for audio messages. With this, WhatsApp detects what has been said in the message and converts the audio into typed text.

You no longer have to listen to long and sometimes difficult to understand voice messages, but you can immediately read them in the form of text. It’s also a godsend if you don’t have the opportunity to play a voice message. By translating the voice message into text, you immediately know whether it is something urgent or whether an app can wait.

All transcripts are processed locally on the device, which is great for privacy. It is not yet known when Apple will make the ‘voice messages to text’ function available to everyone. It is also still unclear whether the Dutch language will be immediately supported.

At Telegram – WhatsApp’s biggest competitor – it is already possible to convert voice messages into text. Although you do need Telegram Premium for that: this costs 5.50 euros per month. With WhatsApp, unsubscribing voice messages will become free.

New WhatsApp features

It’s not the only feature the messaging service comes with. WhatsApp is currently working on 5 features. The ‘Status’ function is getting a lot of attention. New is, for example, that you can add a voice message as a Status and it will be possible to respond to a Status with an emoji.

WhatsApp also has many (hidden) functions that make the app even better. Do you want to know them? Check out the article 5 tips for WhatsApp: this is how you solve the biggest irritations.
