This is what the new opening screen of YouTube on Android looks like

It’s been around on Android TV for a while, but now the YouTube app on Android has it too: a snazzy new intro. Here you will see the YouTube logo, which changes to a playback bar, before you continue to your home page of the video platform.

It may happen that you don’t have it (yet): with many editors, the app immediately jumps to the start page, instead of an opening screen appearing. That’s because it only occurs on certain devices in the beta version of the app (version 18.16.33)

Fortunately, Twitter user MasshiroTenmei put it on social media so we can still enjoy it. The intro is the same as with Netflix, where you see the red N appear on screen (and hear the familiar tudum sound), but in YouTube form. However, it passes a bit faster than that of the Flix.

New intro screen

On Android TV, the new introduction in the app has been live for some time (since November 2022), but now the YouTube app on Android phones has also been modernized. It’s obviously meant to be a loading screen, so you have something fun to look at while your phone calculates to show you the app’s content. On the phone, it’s almost the same as on the television, but it’s missing a high-pitched sound to go with it, and it’s just a second shorter than that of the television.

By the way, you don’t see it every time: if you already have the app open, it won’t come up again and again when you go to that screen. It’s really about reopening the app completely. When this new ‘loading screen’ also rolls out to the rest of the beta, or even to the stable version of the app, that is still unknown.
