Great Google success: Pixel smartphones are selling well

The Pixel 6 (Pro) is very well received by customers, as new figures show. Although the competition from Apple, Samsung and other manufacturers is still clearly ahead, Google has now been able to double its market share in North America.

Google: Pixel phones increasingly popular

With the Pixel 6 and the Pro version, Google presented two very interesting and well-equipped smartphones in October 2021. Both are well received by customers, as new figures on the North American mobile phone market show. According to studies by Canalys, Google was able to double its market share there within a year.

Unlike the powerful competition from Apple and Samsung, doubling market share is still quite easy for Google: it went from 1 percent to 2 percent. In the second quarter of the year were in North America sold at least 800,000 units. In the same quarter of the previous year, only 200,000 customers from the USA, Mexico and Canada opted for a mobile phone from Google.

Google’s market share may continue to increase in the third quarter. Meanwhile, with the Google Pixel 6a, another 6-series cell phone is available, and that too is cheaper to have than the Pixel 6 (Pro).

Here’s how the Pixel 6a compares to the Pixel 6:

North America: iPhones dominate the market

However, Google can only dream of Apple’s numbers in North America. iPhones are responsible for a share of 52 percent, a year ago it was 48 percent. Between April and June, 18.5 million North Americans bought a new iPhone.

In second place is Samsung with 26 percent, there was an increase of 3 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year. It went up from 8.7 to 9.0 million Galaxy smartphones sold (source: Canalys).

Motorola stagnates in North America and remains at 3.1 million units sold. TCL had to cope with a loss, here it fell from 2.0 to 1.8 million mobile phones sold – perhaps the Chinese manufacturer will soon be overtaken by Google.
