Google Weather seems to be an app in itself

Google Weather is normally ingrained in phones and tablets, but it appears that it can also become a separate app. People from 9to5Google came across plans for a separate app in the code.

Google Weather

Google Weather is normally part of the Google app, but there appears to be a separate variant that is also given a completely new look. Now Google had also announced that: more than 50 apps would be provided with a new design. In addition, a separate Google Weather app is already available for Wear OS, so the news that it may also be released on larger gadgets is not really a huge surprise.

9to5Google makes up for all this by Google Weather’s new package name, which goes by the name: com.google.android.apps.weather. It was found within the most recent variant of the Google Clock app and you will soon be able to see what the weather is like there. This will then be displayed in or around the clock, such as the height of the temperature and some other weather conditions based on the cities you have chosen. Also useful for widgets, for example, so that you can consult this information together on the home screen.

More specific weather information

Speaking of the weather (nice, isn’t it?), what’s also new is that Google Assistant is learning to deal with weather better. For example, it will no longer say ‘It’s going to snow’ in English, but there will even be an indication of how much snow will arrive. Do you have to go to the store for a carrot, or is it a few stray snowdrifts that have already melted before they hit the ground? Google gives you (albeit a little less creatively) more information about the snow or rain you can expect.

Within the clock app you see a lot of this, with words such as (translated): storm, clear day, cloudy, drizzle, low visibility, heavy rain, hail, tropical storm and hurricane. Handy if you are on holiday, or if you want to estimate at home whether you still need to find your rain suit for your bike ride to work. All this is of course not determined by the clock, but by the weather app, which will probably appear on Fold and Tablet next week, but it looks like not yet on the regular Pixel smartphones.
