Google tackles Apple which refuses to support RCS on iPhone (I/O 2023)

Google has decided once again to tackle Apple at its I/O 2023 conference, this concerns the absence of RCS on the iPhone. RCS is the successor to SMS, with features that can recall iMessage, WhatsApp and other messengers: the photos and videos sent are of better quality, group conversations are better managed, it is possible to converse from a Wi-Fi connection. -Fi and more

Google assures that there are now 800 million RCS users worldwide and the billion mark should be reached by the end of the year. It’s available on Android, but not on iOS. Apple is not really interested, preferring to keep iMessage on one side and classic SMS on the other.

“We hope that all mobile operating systems will get the message and adopt RCS. So we can all find ourselves in the group conversation, regardless of the device we use”, said Sameer Samat, vice president of Android. Those present at the conference applauded after this statement.

You should know that Google insists that it is not allowed concerning the support of RCS on iPhone. The band ran a commercial in Las Vegas, launched the “Get The Message” advertising campaign on the Internet, spoke about it several times at its conferences and more.

But Apple is not interested in RCS. “I don’t hear our users asking that we put a lot of energy on this at this point”said Tim Cook, Apple’s boss, in September.
