Google Maps gets 2 new features, here they are

Google is launching a number of new features for Google Maps that allow travelers to easily avoid the holiday and holiday crowds. Two of those features are being rolled out globally and we’ll discuss them in this article.

Google Maps Area Busyness

The new feature is called Area Busyness and uses, among other things, data from real-time traffic on the map to warn users when a part of the city is busiest. People who are not a fan of crowded places or who take the shortest route to their destination because of corona can then simply open Google Maps to see places they should avoid, such as near a holiday fair. If you are traveling in Barcelona and want to visit the popular areas in that city, you can use the function to see which neighborhoods are very lively.

For more information, tap an area. You can see how busy it is there at different times of the day. It also lists restaurants, shops, and museums in that area so you can decide whether to visit them. Area Busyness will be rolled out worldwide for Android and iOS before the holidays.

Google Maps Directory

In addition to the busy places, Maps will also have a Directory tab, which will be placed between overview and updates. The Directory tab comes to all airports, shopping centers and public transport stations around the world, and should help you quickly find your way in these often large buildings.

The Directory tab also shows at a glance what types of stores are located in a building such as toy stores, jewelry stores, airport lounges, car rentals, parking lots, and so on. Within each category you will then see a handy overview with all companies present, including opening times, reviews and on which floor the company is located. According to Google, the button is already available worldwide, but here in the editors we don’t see it yet for, for example, Schiphol Airport or London City.
