Google launches wired Nest Doorbell in US for $179.99

Google has announced a new smart doorbell in the United States. It is a wired variant of the second generation Nest Doorbell and it costs $ 179.99.

In the summer of 2021, Google announced the successor to the Nest Hello, the Nest Doorbell. It is Google’s first video doorbell that runs completely wireless on battery. Google is now also adding a wired variant in the United States, which is called Nest Doorbell (wired).

This wired variant has a slightly modified design. It is in fact smaller and lighter. In addition, with this smart doorbell you can watch video history 24/7. You can of course view those images in real time on a smart display, and also on a Chromecast with Google TV. And thanks to the new Google Home app, it’s now easier than ever to control your doorbell or view your camera feeds. You can even put your camera feed on the first screen when you open the app, so you no longer have to scroll through menus to view it. The doorbell also works with Google Assistant and recognizes people, parcels, animals and even vehicles. You will receive a message as soon as someone is at your door.

You do need a Nest Aware subscription to view the 24/7 video history. You can then review recordings for up to 30 days. With Nest Aware Plus you can extend this to 60 days. Without a subscription, you can view the video history of events for up to 3 hours. Of course, this Nest Doorbell does not run on batteries, but on mains power. So you never have to charge the doorbell.

The new Nest Doorbell is available today in the United States for $179.99 in Snow, Linen, Ash and Ivy colors. We do not know whether and when the smart doorbell will also come to the Netherlands and Belgium. We may hear more about that on Thursday.
