Galaxy Watch 5 gets feature to track menstrual cycle during sleep
The smartwatches from the Galaxy Watch 5 series from Samsung get the new function that allows women to track their menstrual cycle (even) better. This is based on skin temperature based cycle tracking. The feature is rolling out in an update starting today.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series will have a new function in which your body temperature and menstrual cycle can be monitored even better. Users will have access to the function via an update Cycle Tracking.
Samsung has already indicated that it is working on Cycle Tracking and from today owners of the Galaxy Watch 5 can get started. In a press release, the South Korean manufacturer reports the following:
“Our holistic view of well-being is at the heart of our sensor innovations, giving our users a detailed understanding of their health. The new infrared temperature sensor on the Galaxy Watch 5 further expands our health offerings with easy ways to track and assess your personal health.”

So owners of the Galaxy Watch 5 (Pro) will have access to a new function for Cycle Tracking, which stands for cycle tracking. This allows you to monitor changes in your skin temperature during your sleep on your wrist. For this, the temperature sensor – which uses infrared technology – is used on the watches.
Your body temperature varies before, during and after the entire cycle. For example, the temperature rises just after ovulation and will drop again during menstruation. Based on this data and measurements, the days on which you are likely to ovulate, fertile window and period are shown in a graph. The watch will also give you tips. Think of special training sessions that should prevent and/or relieve premenstrual pelvic pain and specify days on which you can best rest.
This is how you turn on the function
To enable the function, go to the option Cycle Tracking in the Samsung Health app. Here you can add your cycle information to the agenda and option Predict period with skin temp switch. According to Samsung, all data on your watch itself is stored, encrypted and not shared with anyone.
Availability
The new features are rolling out to the Galaxy Watch 5 series starting today. So it concerns the ‘regular’ Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.
