For Norway with “Queen Of Kings” at ESC 2023

The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the biggest musical events in Europe and attracts millions of viewers to the screens every year. Every year artists from all over Europe compete to present the best song of the year. This year Norway will be represented by singer Alessandra Mele and her song “Queen Of Kings”.

Alessandra’s way to ESC 2023 in Liverpool

Alessandra was born in Savona, Italy, in 2002 and only moved to Norway in 2021. She has been studying at the Lillehammer Institute of Music Production and Industries since 2022 and took part in the Norwegian adaptation of the globally successful format in the same year “The Voice” part. There she made it into the live shows, but then dropped out in the first round. At the beginning of 2023, Alessandra decided to take part in the Norwegian national final for the ESC, the “Melodi Grand Prix”. Already in the first semi-final she made it into the final and won the show ahead of Ulrikke Brandstorp, who was supposed to represent Norway at the ESC in 2020 before the Show canceled without replacement due to the Corona situation became. Both the audience and the international jury awarded Alessandra and her song “Queen Of Kings” the highest score.

A song for acceptance and against hate

In the song “Queen Of Kings” Alessandra addresses her own bisexuality, which she only dared to go public with when she moved to Norway. However, neither her relatives nor her father know about her sexual orientation. Alessandra describes the possibility of accepting and realizing oneself in her song and thus joins a large number of artists who have worked on the same topic in songs for the ESC.

First viral hit before the start of ESC 2023

The current Spotify figures show that Norway made a good choice with the decision to send Alessandra to the ESC. Since reached “Queen Of Kings” more than 30 million views and is therefore one of the most successful songs of the ESC 2023 vintage to date. The song also trended on TikTok thanks to an ESC fan video by Vanya, which underscored the performance of Miss Ukraine Viktoria Apanasenko at the Miss Universe election with the Norwegian ESC contribution. The clip has now been viewed more than 13 million times and has garnered over 1.5 million likes.
