foldable phone with more accessible price

OPPO has announced its first foldable phone: the Find N. It has a 5.49-inch screen on the front and a larger 7.1-inch panel when you unfold the phone. The device will be for sale in China this month for the equivalent of 1,298 euros, but nothing is known about a arrival in the Netherlands and Belgium.

OPPO Find NO

It has been coming for a while: that first foldable phone from OPPO. Last year, the brand showed us the OPPO X 2021 concept phone with its rollable screen panel. This time, a phone with a folding screen is ready and the OPPO Find N is also intended to end up in the hands of consumers. OPPO wants to make foldables more accessible than ever.

When we take a look at the Find N for the first time, we immediately notice that OPPO got its mustard from Samsung for the general concept. The Find N is similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in that it comes with a cover screen on the front and a larger main screen when you unfold it. It is striking that the phone has finer screen edges compared to the foldable smartphone from Samsung.

The Flexion Hinge

OPPO states that the Find N is the result of four years of research and development and six generations of prototypes. The company uses a flexion hinge designed in a water drop shape, which solves some classic pain points with foldables. The screen folds at a greater angle so there should be a minimal fold that is less noticeable compared to other foldable smartphones. With the flexion hinge, the Find N should be able to fold 200,000 times.

When The Find N is folded, there is no gap between the screen panels so that the screen is better protected. Although the phone is not dust and water resistant. It also features a 3D curved design on both outer edges of the device to improve hand feel. The housing is made of the durable Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

7.1 inch LTPO screen

The smallest screen of the phone measures 5.49 inches and the main screen measures 7.1 inches. The main screen is an LTPO AMOLED panel, or a screen with a variable refresh rate up to 120 Hz. That variable speed should make the phone more economical. The refresh rate of the cover screen is 60Hz. The folding panel is made of ultra-thin glass (UTG) that is 0.3 mm thick, or half the thickness of normal smartphone glass. OPPO uses a high brightness screen of 1,000 nits.

The Find N runs on Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 888 chipset and 12 GB of RAM. It comes with different storage variants up to a maximum of 5142 GB. The OPPO Find N also works with a 4,500 mAh battery that can be charged thanks to the included 33W charger from OPPO. Wireless charging is also a possibility with a power of 15W.

Special software features

A large main screen in landscape aspect ratio, that naturally requires smart multitask applications. The OPPO Find N includes new gestures that should make side-by-side multitasking more intuitive. When using a compatible app, the screen can be split in half by swiping two fingers down the center of the device. In addition, an entire window can be turned into a floating window by squeezing it with four fingers.

You can of course also smoothly switch between the cover screen and the main screen and you can then end up in an app where you left off. In addition, productivity is increased by a range of keyboard adjustments for the large indoor display, including a split keyboard that makes it easier to type with two thumbs. The Find N works on Android 11 and can therefore not yet take advantage of the novelties for foldables that appear with the Android 12L update. Although we do expect that the phone will receive this update in the long term.

Five cameras

The Find N has a selfie camera on both its large and small screen, and there are three more lenses on the back. The main camera is a 50 MP Sony IMX 766. The phone also comes with a 16 MP wide-angle camera and a 13 MP telephoto camera.

Obviously, OPPO has completely adapted the user experience of the cameras to the folding screen. The new split camera user interface allows users to use the large indoor display to take pictures on one side and then view, share or delete the most recent picture on the other screen part. When taking pictures with the main camera with the screen extended, the inner and outer screens can simultaneously preview both the photographer and subject in front of the lens.

OPPO Find N prices and availability
