External SSD especially for your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X

You don’t have to unscrew your console for it and you still have extra storage. Ideally, an external SSD for your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X.

Where 512 GB used to be decent, nowadays even 1 TB of storage is no longer impressive. Games are getting bigger and bigger. Not to mention updates that come afterwards. In short, if you play a lot of different games, there will come a time when your console becomes full. Extra storage is nice.

Western Digital presented the WD_BLACK D30 this week. This is an external SSD, specially developed for use with the Sony PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. There are two variants. One ‘regular’ and one with a special Xbox logo printed on it. Of course you want the latter if you have an Xbox Series X. The PlayStation gamers will have to make do with a regular copy.

Mind you, it is good to know that you cannot play PlayStation 5 games directly from the SSD. PS4 games from the SSD are possible. Ditto for the Xbox Series X, where you can play Xbox One games from the SSD, but not XSX games.

The Western Digital WD_BLACK D30 is available with 500 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB storage. Prices start at $ 89.99, or $ 99.99 for the Xbox variant. With the Xbox variant you also get one month access to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
