Elon Musk is already getting a big warning from the EU about Twitter

Twitter should not become Elon Musk’s playground, EU Commissioner Thierry Breton said in a response.

Now Elon Musk his lover Twitter gets their hands on the first plans. The entrepreneur wants to make it an oasis of freedom of expression. Fine, say the EU overlords, but within the limits of agreed laws.

Brussels warns Elon Musk that his social medium must comply with the digital agreements made by the European Union. Otherwise, Twitter will face hefty fines or in the worst case even a ban. The question is whether it will actually get that far. You never know with Musk.

One of those rules is that Twitter has a responsibility to moderate content. For example, posts that call for violence or contain any other form of illegal activity must be deleted. The American tech company is already doing this, sometimes even a bit too strict. For example, the temporary suspension of Geert Wilders on Twitter as a result of a tweet came under criticism from the platform.

The question, of course, is to what extent Elon Musk wants to protect freedom of expression. In the EU they already make it clear where the line is. If Elon crosses that line, he can expect consequences.
