Don’t buy these Apple products now (and in a month’s time)

The latest iPhones, Apple Watches, and iPads are great devices – but we don’t recommend buying them. At least: to buy them now. The timing would not be very fortunate.

Read on after the ad.

New Apple products on the way

While most people enjoy the summer holidays, there is no relaxation at Apple. In a little over a month, the Cupertino-based company will open a can of new products – and those are not the least devices. The latest iPhone 14 series and Apple Watch Series 8 are expected, among others.

And even if you are not looking for the latest of the latest, it can be smart to postpone your purchase for a while. Because when newer products appear on the market, older Apple products are usually reduced in price. So keep your hand in your pocket and do not buy the products below in August.

1. iPhone: don’t buy in August

Every year, Apple announces a new iPhone series – and it’s almost always in the month of September. This year it concerns the iPhone 14 series, which consists of four models. There’s a good chance they’ll be announced around September 13. The pre-orders will probably start on Friday, September 16, and the first customers will have the new devices at home from September 23.

It is therefore not wise to buy an iPhone 13 (Pro) now. If you wait another month, you will have a better iPhone for (almost) the same money. Or you can still go for the iPhone 13 (Pro), but then have it for a sharper price. Usually iPhone models are reduced by about 100 to 150 euros in price when newer models appear.

The iPhone SE 2022 is an exception, by the way. The budget iPhone was launched in March this year and we expect that a price reduction will not be forthcoming for at least another year. In our iPhone SE 2022 price comparison, you can see where you can get the SE cheapest.

2. Apple Watch: wait another month

The Apple event in September does not stop with new iPhones. Three new Apple Watch models are also expected. It is rumored to be the Apple Watch Series 8, the Apple Watch SE and an extra sturdy version for extreme sports.

If you wait a month with your purchase, you will have a better watch on your wrist for (approximately) the same amount of money. The Apple Watch Series 8 is expected to have a new sensor that measures body temperature. The new Apple Watch SE is presumably based on the Apple Watch Series 6 and has an Always-on display and ECG function. The current SE does not have that.

3. iPad 2022: Goodbye Lightning

The entry-level iPad is renewed almost every year. The main question is whether Apple will launch the 2022 version in September or October. In any case, it is not such a good time to buy the 9th generation iPad from 2021. So the tenth version is almost here – and the changes are likely to be big.

The iPad 2022 is rumored to have a larger display of 10.5 or 10.9 inches. Now the screen size is 10.2 inches. The tablet may get a more modern look, with the home button disappearing and the edges around the screen are narrower. Furthermore, the Lightning connection disappears: it will be replaced by USB-c. Apple also puts a more powerful A14 chip in it, which is about thirty percent faster. In short: the new entry-level iPad is worth the wait.

4. Mac mini: soon with M2

The Mac mini was last refreshed in November 2020, and is due for an update. That seems imminent, because the renowned Apple insider Mark Gurman states that a new version will appear in 2022. The month of October seems the most likely.

The new Mac mini 2022 is probably equipped with an M2 chip, which we already know from the new MacBook Air. There may also be an extra powerful variant with an M2 Pro chip. Incidentally, the current version from 2020 is still interesting for many. We expect Apple to lower the price after the announcement of the Mac mini 2022, so in this case too, hold off on purchasing.

Do buy these products

It is therefore better not to buy some iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch models in August, but there are also products where the timing is right because they are still fairly new:
