If you ever watch some Stories on Instagram, you may think you are going crazy. Users worldwide report that they see double Stories on Instagram. What is going on?
Stories double on Instagram
The problem seems to occur all over the world and looks like this: Users are continuously shown the same Stories on the social medium, regardless of whether a Story has already been viewed (which normally means that it will be at the back of the queue).
In fact, even when someone posts a new Story, the viewer must first go through all previous videos and photos to get to the new content. This makes the use of the Stories function practically impossible. It does not appear that the timeline of users is also affected.
Meanwhile, parent company Meta has responded to The Verge and it appears to be a persistent bug. The social media outlet has apologized, writing: “We are aware that some people are having trouble viewing Instagram Stories. We are working on a fix and will try to fix the feature as soon as possible.”
The first reports of the bug came in Tuesday morning; Meta seems to have taken quite a while to fix one of the cornerstones of Instagram, especially considering the (infinite) double viewing of Stories makes that function practically unusable.
