Disney + loses unique selling point: Well then, good night!

In contrast to the competition from Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, Disney + has so far convinced with a strong unique selling point. In one fell swoop, the Mickey Mouse group is now giving up this and thus risking the future of its own streaming service – the trust is lost. Let’s talk about it in the current issue of the weekend column.

Anyone who has subscribed to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video knows how to do this. Many films and series are only available from streaming providers for a limited period of time. From time to time content disappears and new ones are added.

Disney + surprises customers: dozens of series and films are no longer available

Disney+ has been mostly different so far: Once on Disney+, always on Disney+. Now, however, this assumption turns out to be bitter fallacy out and the streaming service of the American provider is currently removing umpteen different titles worldwide – we also reported.

It’s unfortunate, but can’t be changed, can it? The real trouble, however, is elsewhere. Many of the series and films that are now being released from Disney + are in-house productions. Disney actually has the right of disposal over them. For example, the series “Willow”, which was only shown at the beginning of the year and unfortunately does not get a second season. Or the documentary “The World According to Jeff Goldblum”, which is well worth seeing. All pure Disney+ originals.

Who could or wanted to expect these to be removed from the Disney+ portfolio without further ado?

After all, there are also one or the other long-awaited addition, such as the Indiana Jones series:

What is particularly disturbing is that Uncertainty in which Disney leaves its customers behind. There is no advance warning like Netflix or Amazon via their own app and website. Users are therefore caught cold.

It is also not clear what will happen to the films and series. Will they be licensed elsewhere or will they end up locked away in the dark archives until some distant day Disney deigns to free them from the dungeon sometime in the future?

My thoughts for the weekend: The column aims to provide food for thought and reflect on the week’s “news flood” towards the end. A small selection of previous articles in the column:

Lost trust, lost customers?

Nobody knows this. Frankly speaking, Disney+ not only loses a unique selling point, but completely sacrifices the entire customer trust.

Real in-house productions are known to be mostly “safe”, this applies to both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The latter sometimes moves them to Amazon Freevee’s advertising-financed offer, but they can still be seen and are not generally banned.

My Opinion: With such rigorous business practices I have to think twice before extending my current annual subscription or just canceling it. You can then watch a maximum of monthly à la Netflix. The leap of faith has now been used up.

In the sense: Good night, my friends of the mouse. Hopefully you’ll wake up soon and reconsider the last decision.
