If you go to a Lidl soon, you could be in for a surprise: the discounter is offering a new parking service. The background is a cooperation with a provider of rental bicycles, which according to Lidl should make a “contribution to the traffic turnaround”. It is already known in which Lidl branches the new offer will be available.

Briefly unlock with the app and off you go: rental bikes are extremely practical and the street scene would be inconceivable without them. Nextbike is one of the largest providers and should now become even better known thanks to a new cooperation with Lidl.

Lidl and Kaufland cooperate with Nextbike for bike rental

In the future, Nextbike bicycles will be available for hire at 18 Lidl branches. A corresponding cooperation between Nextbike and the Schwarz Group, to which Kaufland also belongs in addition to Lidl, has now been announced (source: press portal). Make the first serve 18 Lidl branches and two Kaufland branches in NRW in the following cities:

  • Bochum
  • Bonn
  • Duisburg
  • Dusseldorf
  • meal
  • Gelsenkirchen
  • Hamm
  • herne
  • Cologne

The cooperation is to be further expanded in the future.

Do you already know these facts about Lidl?

Parking areas marked with floor markings

When it comes to implementation, Lidl and Kaufland want to keep it simple. Nextbike customers should be able to rent bikes around the clock via the app in front of the branches. The parking areas for the Nextbike bikes are marked with floor markings. Practical: All rental bikes are equipped with a bicycle basket. If you walk to Lidl or Kaufland and spontaneously buy more than you originally planned, you can transport your purchases home with one of the Nextbike bikes. The bike return should be possible “within a city area at every nextbike station as well as in defined zones directly at the side of the road”, according to the press release.

There is no further information about the prices for the new service in the press release. It is therefore likely that the usual Nextbike prices will apply here. There are either as a minute or monthly rate and start at 1 euro per 15 minutes or 10 euros per month (see at Nextbike).
