Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition

Capcom definitely has a reason to blow champagne this year. In addition to the 25th birthday of the Resident Evil series, two decades will pass in August since the Devil May Cry brand first saw the light of day. At that time, Hideki Kamija still held the baton tightly in his fingers, but he later went further away to bring us, for example, Bayonetta or Okami. Fortunately, he found a quality successor and the series lives on. To the unspeakable joy and happiness of the fans, because in its genre it leaves most of the competition far behind.

Dante and the others

The fifth Devil May Cry functions largely as a return home, where the series headed after the left-hander DmC, exceptionally not from Capcom’s workshops, but from the Ninja Theory studio. In its conception, this allowed many, for example, to reach the fans for the typical form of the central protagonist. In the regular five, however, Dante is as it should be, and the same can be said about the gameplay.

The most important term you should remember in the case of Devil May Cry 5 is “style”. It surrounds not only the entire ensemble of heroes and their helpers, but is also one of the key game metrics.

Dante with his frack-like grin and pomp with which he insults his opponents, Nero with youthful pride and tenacity, an elevated mysterious V who doesn’t want to get his hands dirty with a demonic charm, or a sexy armorer Nico, who manages the van like Olga Hepnarová and has her colts tattooed damn low. It follows from this list that you will definitely not be bored with your charges, despite the fact that the story itself is more in number and decoration.

A quality guide to hell

The basic trio of heroes in the Special Edition is complemented by the old well-known Vergil, an absolutely unreal scythe with a great plethora of weapons and a fighting style focused primarily on precise and well-timed execution of attacks and evasive maneuvers. Unfortunately, he didn’t get his own story label in the wreath, you can only go through the basic Devil May Cry 5 campaign with it, without story animations that wouldn’t make sense at that moment.

On the other hand, you can enjoy a complete passage without alternating different characters as in the basics, moreover, it is impossible to stress enough how fun it is to perform this particular fighter with katana, teleportation skills, crushing blows and immeasurable self-confidence.

Next-gen?

Not to mention, the port to the new generation of consoles is a bit unnecessary if you have already managed to buy the game on PS4 or Xbox One and a little sorry for Capcom that it does not provide (albeit slightly charged) upgrade, but forces you to buy the whole game again .

You can buy Vergil into the old version as DLC and the other changes are relatively slow. It is definitely worth mentioning the level of difficulty Legendary Dark Knight, which cannot be recommended to complete novices, but it balances the fact that the basic two available difficulty settings are very, very easy and you will shine through the game like Spard’s sword with the pajš of a confused demonic minion.

When it comes to graphics, don’t expect any miraculous shift here either. After all, the RE Engine enchanted the last generation, the newly added ray-tracing is definitely not worth half (30FPS) framerate, and on the contrary, the 120 FPS mode will probably be used by only a handful of owners of corresponding TV screens. That is, if you are not playing on a game monitor.

It’s freezing that the PlayStation 5 version doesn’t play a bit more with the capabilities of the DualSense controller, except for the rumble of revolving the handle of Nero’s sword, we can only remember the sound effects when changing Dante’s fighting styles. On the other hand, what can be highlighted is the virtually non-existent recording times.

Easy to learn, hard to master

A few reservations about the game itself stem mainly from the fact that it starts quite late, depending on how you unlock new abilities and combos and gradually learn a relatively complicated combat system for beginners. Thus, it is especially complicated when you want to achieve the best possible appreciation of your fighting style, which, in addition to flawless dodging, also requires eye-pleasing alternation of attacks. You can also win with a simple button mashing, but you will have about a quarter of the satisfaction.

Devil May Cry 5 is a great choice especially for those who want to enjoy a beautifully flowing frenetic action and who do not mind the typical Japanese over-the-top design, thanks to which the hero can soap his opponents with a halved motorbike equipped with blades from a defeated opponent. the next scene he mounted again and headed for the house. This is a fantastic ride in which the playability plays the first, second and third violins.

The form surpasses the content

Don’t expect a deep story, this is a boyish fantasy about overcoming the seemingly insurmountable, about busty helpers and about demons who don’t even realize what a mess they found themselves in when they crossed your path.

The Special Edition is a great choice for those who are still procrastinating with the fifth Devil May Cry and have not yet opened their wallets to Capcom. For a price slightly exceeding a thousand crowns, you will get a copy of the fun, which can save you from waiting for the damn third Bayonetta. On the contrary, it should be avoided by those who already own the original game and are not foolish enough to raise money for a miniature upgrade for their new sexy console.
