Dell is updating its premium notebook to the Evo specification

No time right now?

Dell brings a moderate update for its Latitude notebook range. The Latitude 9420 comes with Intel’s 11th generation core processors. The remaining specs are also state-of-the-art.

In the new Latitude 9420, Dell has built everything that a premium notebook can do today. When it comes to materials, the manufacturer relies on sustainable substances, such as plastic from marine litter and water-soluble paints. The camera in the upper part of the display switches itself on and off automatically via a physical shutter.

The built-in AI should learn the usage behavior of the user and adapt to it. For example, the battery life should improve over time. In addition, the AI pays attention to which app currently needs the most performance and automatically prioritizes it. This also applies to the available data bandwidth.

Environmental monitoring recognizes the presence of the user and then ensures faster logins. This is to prevent safety functions from being switched off for convenience.

Compliance with the Evo platform specifications also ensures that with the new Latitude, buyers receive a device that complies with the latest standards in all essential points.

In this way, the manufacturer puts all the hooks in the right places and meets both modern requirements and the zeitgeist in general. Specifically, the new Latitude 9420 offers the following features.

This is in the new Latitude 9420

The Latitude 9420 is available as a conventional notebook and, on request, as a 2-in-1 convertible. All variants are always powered by an eleventh generation core processor – right up to the i7 vPro.

The processor is supported by up to 32 gigabytes of LPDDR4 memory. However, it is firmly on the board. Interested parties should configure the maximum amount required accordingly.

Dell uses 14-inch displays for the display. Only the screen for the convertible supports touch and offers QHD Plus resolution. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6 DX. Dell’s Active Pen can be used.

The notebook display only delivers Full HD Plus with 1,920 by 1,280 pixels. Both displays offer a maximum brightness of 500 nits and 100 percent coverage of the sRGB color space as well as blue light suppression.

The Latitude 9420 comes with an M-2 SSD in sizes up to one terabyte. When it comes to the battery configuration, Dell gives its customers the choice between a battery with 40 and one with 60 watt hours of energy. Charging is via a USB-C port, either with 60 or 65 watts – depending on the power supply unit selected.

For the home office, the Latitude values good conference features. It is equipped with four speakers and four noise-canceling microphones. It is also possible to physically connect a headphone / micro combo.

Radio is based on the Wi-Fi 6 standard. Cellular modems up to 5G can be booked as an option. Two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 support allow the connection of modern peripherals. Monitors can also be connected via the HDMI port.

As for sensors, the Latitude provides a gyroscope, an e-compass, an acceleration sensor and, in the case of the cellular versions, GPS.

The housing is designed as an aluminum unibody. Nevertheless, the notebook version of the Latitude 9420 only weighs a little more than 1.3 kilograms and, with a base area of 31 x 21.5 centimeters, is only slightly larger than a DIN A4 sheet – but with a thickness of eight millimeters, it is significantly thicker.

Price and availability

The Latitude 9420 will first be sold in the US. Dell does not give an exact date. It should come in “Spring 2021” and cost from 1,949 US dollars. The manufacturer does not say when the Latitude 9420 will be available in other parts of the world.
