Crypto News # 3: Bitcoin City on Volcano and $ 36 Million Theft

Canadian steals $ 36 million worth of crypto

It’s a record theft for this young Canadian who luckily got caught more than a year after his mischief. By hijacking the SIM card of an American investor (SIM swapping), he was able to access the two-factor authentication codes allowing him to transfer funds to his own wallet. The young man hit the jackpot since he was able to steal the sum of 36 million US dollars. The crime was almost perfect, but our thief was reckless to make a purchase with the fruit of his theft: a rare username on a video game. Bitcoin City on a volcano?

We already told you about Nayib Bukele, the fantastic president of El Salvador. This small Latin American country made a name for itself by being the first to give Bitcoin legal tender status. But Bukele wants to go further: the creation of a “Bitcoin City”, a city powered by geothermal energy from the Conchaga volcano. The goal is of course to mine Bitcoin day and night in the most eco-responsible way possible. It is in fact the expansion of an already existing project attached to a first volcano. The project would cost more than a billion dollars and to finance it, El Salvador intends to issue bonds in Bitcoin. The circle is complete.

Is Craig Wright Satoshi Nakamoto?

Bitcoin is a bit like Dallas, a ruthless universe. Creator Satoshi Nakamoto has been missing for 10 years and no one knows what happened to him. However, for several years Craig Wright claims that it is him. The evidence he provided to a handful of experts, however, did not convince the crowds and Vitalik Buterin the creator of Ethereum even considers him a con artist. Not surprising since the much maligned Wright is multiplying the trials to prove that Bitcoin is “his thing”: a little strange when you know the philosophy of the project. However, there could be a new twist in this affair around a programmer who died in 2013: David Kleinman. The latter being a long-time associate of Wright and presented by the latter as having participated in the creation of Bitcoin. Kleinman’s brother is therefore claiming half of the Bitcoins mined by Wright from 2009 to 2013, i.e. several billion dollars at the current price. The trial can determine if Wright is really Nakamoto since the court could ask him to show proof of his “paternity”.
