Classical music becomes an important part of Apple Music

Apple has bought classical music service Primephonic. This provides Apple Music users with an enhanced classical music experience. Thanks to the acquisition, Apple Music will also be able to distinguish itself better from other streaming services, such as Spotify and Deezer.

Starting next year, Apple will offer an authentic Primephonic experience in the form of a separate app. With this app, Apple Music subscribers can take advantage of enhanced search capabilities by composer, repertoire, and more. Finally, users get access to special playlists and audio content.

“We love and have deep respect for classical music. Primephonic is a fan favorite of the genre.” So says Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats. “Together, we’re bringing great new features to Apple Music. In the near future, we are coming up with a dedicated classic experience. All in all it will be the best in the world.”

Don’t panic, current Primephonic users!

Primephonic will go offline on September 7 and will no longer be available to new subscribers. Apple will launch its own dedicated classical music app early next year. This app retains the classic Primephonic UI and combines it with additional features.

Current Primephonic users get six months of free access to ‌Apple Music‌. There they can listen to hundreds of thousands of classic albums that support Lossless Audio and Spatial Audio.
