Cambodia concentrates 50% of global Facebook Messenger traffic, and we know why
We could almost make a Carambar riddle: ” Did you know, ? Cambodia concentrates no less than 50% of the global traffic of Facebook Messenger! Why do you think? ” .
The answer to this amazing question can be found in the whistleblower’s “Facebook Files” Frances Haugen. This statistical anomaly (at first glance) finds its cause in the 74 characters that make up the writing system of the Khmer language. As the majority of keyboards are not compatible, entering texts in Khmer becomes a real punishment, so much so that Cambodians have ended up exclusively privileging voice recordings to communicate via Facebook Messenger in their natural language (English is reserved for texts written).
These voice recordings weigh a lot in data on the Facebook Messenger network, and of course a lot more than a simple text. Knowing that Messenger enjoys great popularity in Cambodia, we therefore have the explanation in our Carambar riddle.
