Bought a new iPhone? This is how you transfer your esim
Did you buy a new iPhone? Congratulations! To make switching as smooth as possible, in this article we explain how to transfer your esim.

iPhone esim transfer goes like this
An iPhone has space for a maximum of one SIM card, but you can still use multiple numbers on the device. How? By creating an esim, or an electronic SIM card. Just like moving your SIM card from one iPhone to another when switching, you also have to move your esim.
Fortunately, in most cases this is very simple. During the setup of your new iPhone, the phone will automatically ask you if you want to transfer your mobile subscription. This is also the easiest way to transfer an esim. Follow these steps:
- Select the songs you want to transfer to your new iPhone:
- Tap ‘Continue’, the button at the bottom of the page;
- Now follow the steps on the screen to complete the transfer.
The settings for your esim card(s) are linked to your Apple ID, the personal Apple account. It is therefore easiest to transfer your esim during configuration.
However, you can also do this at a later time. If you prefer to do this, do not choose ‘Continue’ in step 2 of the diagram, but choose ‘Decide later’. You can then transfer the electronic ticket via the Settings app.
Once the number has been transferred, the subscription on your old iPhone will be terminated. This is now active on your new device. You can of course put it to the test by (letting) call this number. Does the horn ring? Then everything is set up correctly.

Does not it work?
It depends on your provider whether the above method also applies to you. With some parties you still have to perform a few intermediate steps to transfer an esim.
At T-Mobile, for example, you can only connect an esim to one device at a time. If you buy a new iPhone, you must activate a new esim on it and then deactivate your old ‘card’. Are you at KPN? Then you can easily transfer an esim via the KPN app (on your old iPhone).
