Bizarre golden Wii for sale

Console Variations

This golden Wii is now for sale and was actually a gift to the Queen of England. Read here how much you have to pay for it.

It’s probably not to everyone’s taste, but now you have the chance to buy a unique Nintendo Wii. You must have a properly filled bank account, because the device is not cheap. The Wii is owned by a Dutch collector Console Variations Don. The 24-karat gold-plated device was developed by a now-bankrupt Wii game developer THQ who planned to deliver it to Queen Elizabeth II in 2009.

Golden Wii

Her Majesty did not accept the gift, which is why the Wii is now being sold. The system was intended as a promo piece for the forgettable minigame collection Big Family Games, but never made it to Buckingham Palace. This is because of an “understandably strict” policy on royal gifts. It returned to THQ and surfaced in 2017 after a collector got it from a studio contact. The unnamed owner eventually sold it to Don.

Don tried to sell it on eBay before. He thought he had gold in his hands and asked $300,000 for it. However, the marketplace shut it down as a policy change flagged accounts selling items at prices well outside their usual range. The new auction is with Goldin, which has no comparable reservations.

To buy

The auction is currently open. There is already an offer of $ 2,000 and it is expected that this will be much higher. You have until May 21 to make a good offer. This is also not an item in mint condition as there are signs of “scattered” gold chipping. And since Nintendo discontinued its online multiplayer and Wii Shop services years ago, you probably won’t do more with this machine than stare at it fondly.
