Can’t see tweets or have they disappeared? This is what’s going on

You may have already noticed that you can no longer see tweets or that they have disappeared completely in some news items. That has to do with new policy from Twitter. We’ll explain to you what’s going on.

Read on after the ad.

Maximum number of Twitter posts per day

Last Saturday, Twitter limited the number of tweets that can be read each day. This is done to prevent so-called data scraping (automatically extracting information from the site).

According to Elon Musk, owner of Twitter, there are hundreds of organizations that scrape data from Twitter, leading to huge crowds on the platform and compromising services for regular users.

As a result of this (temporary) measure, you can now only see 10,000 tweets per day if you have a verified account (with a blue checkmark). If you have an unverified account, you will only see 1000 tweets per day and for unverified accounts that have just been created, a maximum of 500 applies. So the tweets have not really disappeared, but you simply cannot see them.

Below is the original tweet (which you probably won’t be able to see) unless you’re logged into Twitter. In addition, you may not yet have reached the number of maximum tweets for this day.

This is why you no longer see tweets

A day earlier, Twitter already imposed another temporary restriction, also intended to prevent data scraping. Since then it is no longer possible to read tweets if you are not logged in. If you click on a link of a tweet, you will be taken to the homepage of Twitter.

This means that if you are not logged in, you will not be able to see Twitter messages that are in news items, for example. All tweets then seem to have disappeared. If you’re logged in and you still don’t see any tweets, you’ve probably reached the maximum for that day.

Twitter’s measures are not received positively. On the contrary. Musk, for example, is accused of using the measures to ‘force’ people to buy a paid Twitter Blue subscription. We are closely monitoring developments.
