Beware of this new feature removal at Google!
For the past few months, Google has entered a period of cost rationalization. The Californian giant has thus carried out the partial merger of Waze and Google Maps, but has also prepared to delete a large number of Gmail accounts to clean up its servers.
On July 19, it will therefore be Google Album Archive that will bear the brunt of this savings policy. The little-known service allowed you to keep your photos, videos and other media. With a very low number of active users, the tool will therefore disappear in a month. Until then, you can recover all your data from Google Takeout.
How to save content with Google Takeout?
In Google Album Archive, you will find many forgotten photos, older than the Google Photos Cloud backup, so older than 2018. If you want to keep some of these media, or all of them, the procedure is simple:
- Meeting on Google Takeout
- Be sure that AlbumArchive is ticked
- Click on Next step
- Configure your sending, by selecting the destination as well as the export frequency and the file size
- Click on Create an export
Once the procedure has started, the progress of the export will be visible at the bottom of your screen. When complete, your file is sent to the requested destination. If you are a Google Workspace user, be aware that the recovery requires a prior authorization request from the space administrator.
To find out more, Google published a backing note containing all the important information to take into account. For your media after 2018, don’t worry, Google Photo now includes an automatic backup, synchronized with the Cloud.
