best apps to save fuel costs

It has been a thorn in the side of every motorist lately: driving past a gas station. The large digital sign shows insanely high figures for fuel costs. Can’t that be a little less? If you play it smart, yes. Fortunately, there is help in the form of apps that help you save on a full tank.

1. Save on refueling

Don’t go to your nearest gas station, don’t go to your favorite place where they have those delicious sandwiches: when it comes to cheap refueling, there’s a good chance that you have to move to a gas station where you normally don’t come (that often). These apps will help you figure out the best place to drive for a slightly less expensive fill-up in no time at all.

2. Tamoil

Where most apps are especially useful because they show how high the fuel prices are, the Tamoil app is there to save money immediately. You log in to this app with your Tamoil account and you will then receive a 1 euro cent discount per liter for every refueling. Sometimes it is even 5 cents per liter, but that is only at milestones such as your first refueling with Tamoil or after refueling 350 liters. Before refueling, don’t forget to indicate in the app that you are going to refuel and where, specifically with the pump. The discount will then automatically appear in the app after refueling.

3. 1-2-3 Refueling

People who like to go to Germany, for example to shop because they live nearby, or to go out with friends, will benefit from the free 1-2-3 refueling. Unfortunately, this app is only focused on Germany, because it is extremely useful and we would have liked to see it for the Netherlands as well. You search based on the fuel you use and then see where you can go to filling stations. Please note: in Germany there is no daily price for fuel, so where it is cheap in a certain place in the morning, it may be different in the afternoon.

4. ANWB En route

Ask an average Dutch person which app he or she uses when driving and there is a good chance that it will be called free ANWB Weg. Logical, because you will find a lot of useful information there: parking spaces, charging stations and petrol stations are presented to you in a clear manner. At the gas stations, it is also displayed how much the price per liter is of the substance that goes into your tank. If you are not very good with numbers, there is also a color display where a color shows how high the price is compared to other gas stations.

5. DirectLease Tank Service

You don’t expect it immediately, but leasing company DirectLease has an incredibly handy fuel app. You don’t need to have a lease car at all, because everyone can use this app for free. Here too, colors are used to show the price of diesel and gas, whereby you mainly have to look for green or blue locations. Extensive information about filling stations can be found, including opening times, whether it is manned or unmanned and whether there is a car wash. Also handy: the petrol stations in Belgium are also displayed.

Google Maps

You can see the fuel prices on Google Maps abroad. Unfortunately, this is not possible in the Netherlands at the moment, but we won’t be surprised if it is soon. It is possible for neighboring countries Belgium and Germany. You can find the fuel prices by searching the map for gas stations. He then indicates the gas stations in the region on the map, along with the fuel price. It is hoped that this feature will come to the Netherlands soon as it is very useful.
