Shazam updates for Apple Silicon Macs (M1/M2) and changes icons

Apple today released an update to its Shazam app that natively supports Apple Silicon Macs, i.e. models that have the M1 and M2 chips. There is also a new icon.

Until now, Shazam’s app was a version for Macs with Intel processors. It was possible to run it on Apple Silicon Macs thanks to Apple’s Rosetta 2, but it was not a native version by definition. It is now.

Having a version optimized for Mac M1 and M2 normally makes it possible to fully exploit the power of the chips and reduce energy consumption (and therefore do good for the autonomy of the Mac). But we cannot say that Shazam is an application that requires a lot of resources. Support for Apple Silicon Macs will at least ensure long-term compatibility when Apple drops Rosetta 2.

Shazam is available for free for download from the Mac App Store.

As a reminder, Shazam is an application that can recognize music, thus giving the name of the singer and the title of the song. Apple bought the service in December 2017 for $400 million. The takeover was finalized in September 2018.
