Apple will launch this Mac tomorrow (we think)

Apple has invited us to their spring event on March 8, where they will be announcing some devices. This includes (at least) one Mac. Which? You can read that here.

Read on after the ad.

‘At least one Mac announced at the Apple event’

At the moment, Apple makes two different desktop Macs: the Mac mini and the Mac Pro. The difference is in the price tag; the former costs 799 euros and the Pro version is no less than 6499 euros. Apple also has a series of iMacs (with a display) and two types of laptops: the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air. Rumors have been circulating for some time that Mac will be announced at Apple’s spring event on March 8.

Especially after we found out that Apple has registered three model numbers of new Macs in a database, we’re over it. We gathered all the rumors and took stock. Here are the top contenders to be announced on March 8. Are you reading along?

The Mac Studio or a new Apple MacBook Pro?

One of the Mac options that can see the light of day on March 8 is the so-called Mac Studio. According to a reliable source, 9to5mac, Apple comes with the computer Mac that lies exactly between the aforementioned Mac mini and the Pro version. This would then get a version with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. We already know this from the MacBook Pro 2021.

Or will we still see a new MacBook? There are rumors that a 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 chip from Apple’s Silicon will be launched. This chip seems to be getting smaller than the M1 Pro or the M1 Max. That’s why we think that this new MacBook Pro, also due to the smaller screen, will cost less than the 2021 version. That is, if Apple announces it tomorrow.

Still, we think a final option has the best chance of appearing on Apple’s livestream tomorrow.

Smallest Mac (mini), biggest opportunity

The Mac mini, equipped with the M1 chip since 2020, is the cheapest Mac out there. It has appeared on the market for people who are fans of an (affordable) Mac and who have already purchased a monitor, mouse and keyboard. According to many sources, the 2022 version is the Mac that we will see at the Apple event on March 8. It is even claimed that this Mac Mini is ready to ship.

The specifications of this replacement for the high-end Mac mini from 2020 (either with Intel chip or with Apple’s M1 chip) are not yet completely clear. Some already expect to see the new M2 chip from Apple’s Silicon, others are more likely to see the more powerful M1 Pro or M1 Max chip in the new Mac mini. Furthermore, four USB 4 ports, an Ethernet input and an HDMI out are expected.

The housing is rumored to be made of a material that is reminiscent of Plexiglas and comes in the pastel colors that we already saw on the last iMac. Impressive, if we are to believe the sounds, is the 64GB of RAM. The previous Mac mini with Intel chip costs 1249 euros, and the M1 version is about 200 euros less. So, if the new Mac mini is announced March 8, we expect it to hit the market slightly above these prices.

The Apple ‘Peak Performance’ event

There is also the option of multiple Macs appearing on the market. Mark Gurman, Tech journalist from Bloomberg, reports that there is a fourth wild carddisclosure is possible. This can be a new screen, new techniques, but also the release of the Mac Studio or a MacBook Pro.

In any case, Tuesday is the day: the first Apple event of 2022! Here we almost certainly see the new iPhone SE (2022) and a new version of the iPad Air. Don’t want to miss anything? The editors of iPhoned will report on everything that is to come on March 8th. The Apple event can be followed live from 7 p.m. via a live stream on Apple’s YouTube channel or via their website.
