Apple TV 4K 2022 is now available: here’s what’s new

The Apple TV 4K 2022 is now available in stores and it is the most powerful Apple TV yet. We tell you what’s new about this Apple TV!

Apple TV 4K 2022: Two Models

Apple is releasing the new Apple TV in two different models for the first time. The first model has 64GB of storage and costs 169 euros. If you put twenty euros more on the table, you have an Apple TV 4K 2022 with an Ethernet connection and more storage space (128GB). This makes it a lot cheaper than its predecessor.

Here are six other changes to Apple TV 4K 2022:

1. A15 Bionic Chip: Faster and Smoother

The third-generation Apple TV 4K is primarily a hardware improvement. Where the second generation was still equipped with an A12 Bionic chip, the Apple TV 4K 2022 has the A15 Bionic chip.

According to Apple, this chip is much faster than the A12 Bionic chip and mainly provides faster navigation in and between apps. This powerful chip enables the Apple TV to handle the latest games from Apple Arcade in the highest resolutions. In short: a very powerful processor with which you can certainly move forward in the coming years.

2. (Much) more memory

The storage space of the Apple TV 4K 2022 is a big difference with the second generation. The second generation only had 32GB, the third generation has 64GB or 128GB. A big improvement, especially because the more expensive version is still cheaper than the second generation.

In addition, the new Apple TV is equipped with 4GB of RAM, where the second generation had 3GB of RAM.

3. Support HDR10+ content

Also a new addition is support for HDR10+ content. That is another standard for video images with more colors, just like Dolby Vision. The latter was already supported on previous Apple TVs.

4. Siri Remote now with USB-C connection

Apple is getting stuck on things ahead and has already provided the Siri Remote with a USB-c connection. This way you can be sure that you can still connect the remote control in a few years, because according to the EU, all new electronic devices must have such a connection by 2024.

Do you often have to search for the remote control at home? Unfortunately, Apple is not yet putting an end to that search: the new Siri Remote also does not have a ‘Find My’ function.

5. Charging? Buy cable separately

An important detail with this new USB-C port: the new Apple TV does not come with a charging cable. To charge the Siri Remote, you have to buy this USB-C cable separately – if you don’t already have it at home. The charging cable can be purchased for 25 euros in the Apple Store.

6. New design: thinner and lighter

It may not be noticeable at first glance, but the design has also been modified. The Apple TV 4K third generation is much lighter and thinner than the second generation. Apple has been able to give the new Apple TV a more compact design by removing the fan. This was no longer necessary with the new A15 Bionic chip.

Another detail is the logo on the Apple TV. Apple has chosen to remove ‘TV’, so now only the Apple logo is visible.
