It’s a beautiful day, the agenda is empty and the coffee is gone: time for a fun activity in our own country! Brace yourself, because we have listed the best outings in the Netherlands for you. Fun guaranteed.

At least, if we are to believe 50,000 ANWB members. According to their votes, these are the 13 best outings in the Netherlands.

1. Blijdorp Zoo

With dot on one: Diergaarde Blijdorp in Rotterdam. The zoo owes this mainly to their accessibility, the living environment of animals and plants and the loving caretakers. You can set aside an afternoon for the seven themed areas, including Africa, Asia and the Oceanium.

2. DoeZOO Insect World

This small-scale park is really for everyone, because your senses are central. You can see, feel, taste, smell and hear everything. The goal of DoeZOO? Show that all those ‘creepy bugs’ have a very useful function. You will also find an owl path, wild flower garden, cabinet of curiosities and dino forest.

3. Dunes Zathe

The trip goes to Fryslân! Because there you will find traffic and amusement park Duinen Zathe, which finishes in third place. Children can race to their heart’s content with pedal cars, but also have fun on the air cushions, whirligig, mini helicopters and the somewhat exciting Super Nova attraction.

4. Joytime Outdoor Climbing Park

Do you want to put your arms and legs to work? Then pay a visit to this climbing park. Unlike other climbing parks, this one, with a real Kleintje Climbing Park, is also suitable for toddlers and preschoolers. Tired of all that scrambling? Then get on a mountain bike or sup.

This indoor playground also deserves a place in this list of the best outings. Why? Not only do children have a good time, it is also a good place for parents. And whether it’s raining or hot: the slides, trampolines, petting zoo and swimming pool provide hours of entertainment.

6. Dutch Bakery Museum

Do you want to be treated to fresh bread from your own oven soon? Then take your offspring to the Dutch Bakery Museum. There they learn everything about the old and new baking world. On Saturdays they bake the tastiest biscuit men. And don’t forget Bakker Fred’s hilarious bread show.

7. Arcen Castle Gardens

Do you want to impress? Then take your family or partner to these castle gardens, no fewer than fifteen. Marvel at the ponds, flowers, bamboo forest and subtropical greenhouse. For even more spectacle there is mini golf and a treasure hunt and discovery tour.

8. Museum Clock & Peel

We hear you think ‘boring’, a museum about clocks. But nothing is less true. In this interactive museum you will learn about the history of timepieces, clocks and carillons, but you can also operate them yourself. You will also discover everything about the nature reserve of the same name.

9. Berkenhof Tropical Zoo

Go to Zeeland, because you want to have been to this tropical zoo. Nice and small, but plenty to see and experience. In Nature Class, zookeepers tell you everything about animals, from snakes to lizards. The fossil mine and Dino Expo are also a hit. And as icing on the cake, they can lose their energy in the covered kids’ jungle and the outdoor play forest.

11. National Military Museum

From impressive fighter jets to educational games and personal stories: in this museum in Soest you will learn everything about the Dutch armed forces. Bet your child will be amazed? Oh, and not unimportant: according to visitors they have delicious coffee.

12. Orchid Farm Jungle Park

Another surprising outing: the Orchideeën Hoeve in Luttelgeest. In addition to an orchid garden and nursery, this covered park also features an Amazon Rainforest with a rope bridge and rocky paths. And if you look closely, you’ll spot little monkeys.

13. Hoenderdaell Zoo

Also this animal park – not a zoo! – is a big favorite. The park is famous for imitating the natural habitat of the animals. Retired lions and brown bears from Eastern Europe live here. Animals in need are also given a place until they can return to nature.
