Apple Pay increasingly available

The high word is out! Apple now officially offers Apple Pay support for Bancontact cardholders in Belgium. Customers of Belfius Bank and Banx (the virtual version of Belfius Bank) can now add their cards to Apple Pay. Bancontact is a network from Belgium. It performs much the same function as Mastercard and Visa do at other banks.

Belfius and Banx are the first banks to support Bancontact cards in Apple Pay. Apple Pay was previously available in some stores in Belgium. According to Apple, there will soon be more banks in Belgium that will support Apple Pay.

What is Apple Pay and why do you want to use it?

With Apple Pay you can make a purchase via your iPhone or Apple Watch. There is then no reason to take your debit card with you. This is extremely useful if you have too small pockets, but have a small handbag with you, or are afraid of being mugged. All you have to do is hold your iPhone or Apple Watch near the NFC reader. You can also confirm a payment online.

Apple has launched an app especially for this. The so-called Wallet app remembers all your cards as a kind of digital wallet. Don’t just think of payment cards. You can also load your discount card from H&M or your customer card from IKEA in this app. Leave that wallet at home!

Apple Controversial – Company Dominates Market

With iOS 16.1, now only available as a beta download, you can remove Apple Pay and your Wallet app from your iPhone. Apple is under fire for this payment system. According to the European Union, the NFC technology in an iPhone or Apple Watch is too exclusive for Apple’s payment system.

For example, ING’s ‘mobile payment’ in the Netherlands is only available for Android phones. In addition, Apple has also been officially sued for the same reason. Still interested? Then read our 3 smart features of Apple Pay.
