‘Apple has no clear vision on smart homes’
Unrest within Apple. Employees see that there is no clear vision for the smart home market and call the Apple TV media player “pointless”. An entirely new product will be released in 2023 to conquer the living room after all.

Apple employees complain about smart home vision
Living rooms are getting smarter. Smart speakers and media players sell like hot cakes, but there is no hosanna atmosphere at Apple. Quite the contrary: Apple employees are complaining about a “pessimistic mood” within the smart home branch of the company.
That writes Mark Gurman in his weekly newsletter, Power On. According to the Bloomberg journalist, Apple employees mainly complain about the lack of a vision of smart homes.
For example, some developers call the Apple TV “pointless” because there would be no clear future plan for the media player. Especially the lack of innovation is cracked. For example, according to Gurman, nothing has been done with suggestions from developers to renew the Apple TV.
No cheaper Apple TV on the way
For example, they have suggested making a cheaper version of the media player. The Apple TV 4K renewed at the beginning of this year, for example, starts at 199 euros, while competing media players such as the Chromecast with Google TV are much cheaper.
That’s just not going to happen. “Apple lacks a strong vision to conquer the living room and the mood is pessimistic,” summarizes the Bloomberg journalist. Behind the scenes, a new device is being worked on.
In 2023, Apple would therefore release a combination of the HomePod and Apple TV. According to Gurman, this new device not only has a screen to FaceTime with, but also a speaker to listen to music. Earlier this year, rumors about this mysterious device surfaced.

More about the Apple TV 4K
Earlier this year, Apple released a new version of the Apple TV. This media player offers few improvements over its predecessor, which came out in 2017. Especially because you can buy the new Siri Remote separately, we can think of few reasons for owners of the ‘old’ Apple TV to switch.
