Employee is released after tweets about sexism

In the last few years, serious problems in the workplace have become apparent in many places. Large companies such as Amazon, Google or Microsoft are increasingly ending up in the press because internal grievances are being made public. Apple now joins this queue.

An employee previously discussed sexism in her office on Twitter. Ashley Gjøvik had already drawn attention to such problems at work in the past. In addition to the sexism mentioned above, Gjøvik also warned against sexual harassment and a prejudiced workplace.

At Apple, things shouldn’t always be that fair

However, previous internal investigations have shown a different picture. The competent authorities have already analyzed previous allegations, but did not come up with any information that would support Gjøvik’s point of view. The employee asked the group to address the issues raised in the management team and to take action, while Apple released Gjøvik on a paid basis.

Access to internal communication tools such as Slack were also blocked for Gjøvik, where the employee had previously mostly addressed and communicated the grievances. Such actions tend not to paint a good picture of the Californian company, it rather proves that problems are hushed up and not discussed.

Apple usually celebrates itself as diverse, but implementation should fail here and there

The current discussion is not new territory for Apple. In the recent past, some employees have already expressed their displeasure with the corporate culture, in May employees wrote a letter to the management asking them to investigate the attitude of Antonio García Martínez. In his past he wrote a book that women didn’t get away with. Apple responded and threw Martínez back on the street a few hours later.

Own opinion:

The debate about equality and sexual harassment in the workplace is not new; it has been clear for a number of years that women are more often worse off than their male colleagues. The fact that Apple is trying to keep silent about the incident is incomprehensible and should also be punished. Because only cooperation at eye level is sustainable cooperation.
