Android Go now requires at least 2GB of RAM

Google has adjusted the minimum requirements for devices with Android Go. This concerns the working memory and the minimum storage space required.

Android Go with different memory requirements

Changes have been made to the minimum requirements for Android Go. This is the modified version of Android for devices with less powerful hardware. From now on, devices shipped with Android Go must have different requirements. Android Go was launched in 2017, which then required 512MB of RAM. In 2020, 1GB of RAM was set as the minimum.

Devices that are equipped with Android 13 Go must now have 2GB of RAM. Smartphones shipped with this version must also have at least 16GB of storage. This is not only necessary for the user himself, but also for the technical requirements, such as running the Google Play Services.

As mentioned, Android Go is a modified version of Android for devices with less powerful hardware. We see various optimizations here, so that devices can better handle bad network connections, for example. There are also adapted apps that require less from a smartphone. Yet this does not last forever, it seems. Google previously discontinued YouTube Go.
