Android 14 allows text and file dragging between apps

Now you always have to copy and paste it, or dig it up between your files from a ‘share with’-like construction, but that will soon change. You will soon be able to pick up files in Android 14 and drag them to another app. The same goes for text.

Drag files from app to app

Android gets a little more of an Apple experience, as the option to drag a file or text from one app to another will be built into Android 14. In Android 13, you could only drag files between apps when you were in split screen mode, but that will be slightly different in Android 14. Apple has had that for a long time, that you can drag them from one app to another in full screen.

Nail Sadykov from the Telegram channel Google News stumbled upon the opportunity while researching the Android 14 beta. You can hold down a text or file and navigate with the next finger. So it’s not something you can do if you only have one hand free. But that doesn’t matter, the fact that it is possible at all is already a big plus.

In the past, nothing happened if you held a file and started swiping and doing with your other finger: now you can swipe between open apps, but also go to your home screen from the edge of your screen to go back. Handy, because now you can drag items from Google Keep into another document or even put them in any app from your app drawer.

Android 14 will be more than ever an Android version for multitasking and that’s good to see. In the gif above you can see how that dragging works. Do you think you would use it a lot? Leave it now in the comments to this article.
