Android 13 is running on 15 percent of the world’s phones

The most recent version of Android, Android 13, runs on 15 percent of the global smartphones that are actually used. However, that is not the most used version of Android at the moment. That is Android 11. That operating system is installed and in use on no fewer than 23.1 percent of global devices.

Android 13

The information about the Android versions in use comes from Google (via 9to5Google), which once in a while reveals statistics to developers about the Android phones we have on this earth. It used to share these statistics more often, but that has now slowed down somewhat. Within Android Studio we see that so far there has been one in January, in April and now again on May 30th.

Logically, the use of Android 12, Android 11 and Android 10 is slowly decreasing, but there is also a striking increase: Android Oreo (8) is actually experiencing growth. Between April and June, Oreo’s share went from 6.7 percent to 8.3 percent. How that is, it is not clear. In any case, Android 13 is still growing: in January it was still running the smartphones at 5.2 percent.

Android versions used

Android 13 appeared on August 15, 2022, while Android 11 dates back to September 8, 2020. Android 12, which, like Android 11, appeared in the middle of corona time, is apparently considerably less popular than 11 and 13. What would that be like when Android 14 appears? And most importantly: when would it appear? Google doesn’t exactly draw a line here: sometimes it’s August, sometimes October, sometimes September, so there’s no point in drawing when we can expect the brand new Android upgrade.

Which version of Android are you running? Maybe you are one of the lucky ones who are already using Android 14 beta?
