Alternate ending would have ruined the whole horror series

With Alien, director icon Ridley Scott has created a sci-fi horror classic and also launched a successful franchise – but the film series almost came to an abrupt end right at the beginning.

It’s been over 40 years since Alien was released, and the film is still one of the absolute best in the sci-fi horror genre. No wonder the Classic since 1979 has resulted in a large number of sequels but if director Ridley Scott had had his way, film fans would have had to do without the sequels – because heroine Ellen Ripley was not supposed to survive the first film.

Alien: Alternate Twist Ending should have a bleak ending

Ellen Ripley – played by Sigourney Weaver – has established herself as a true horror legend through her four appearances in the Alien series – but Ridley Scott actually intended to let her jump over the blade in the first film. In a brutal and merciless twist, she was about to be decapitated while fighting the alien.

Alien is in – these are the 11 best sci-fi movies of all time:

At the end of the theatrical version, Ripley is known to have rescued himself from the Nostromo spaceship on board a shuttle and is able to transport the alien out of the airlock into space in a final fight. But Scott had other plans: According to him, Ripley should hit the creature with a harpoon, but the monster should not be impressed and tearing off the heroine’s head shortly afterwards. After that, it was supposed to impersonate Captain Arthur Dallas Coblenz and end an audio log in the late Captain’s voice with the words “I’m signing off.” (Source: colliders)

Alien: Horror series could have ended very differently

With his planned ending, Scott would probably have traumatized an entire generation of viewers, but so would the cinema audience one of the most beloved heroines of blockbuster history escaped. According to Scott, his dark idea didn’t resonate with the producers either – he even received threats of termination.

So he let Ripley live – and Sigourney Weaver was allowed to play the role three more times. Even if Alien 3 and Alien 4: Resurrection fell significantly in comparison, it has for the brilliant second part, Aliens, from director James Cameron definitely worth it.

Alien isn’t the only film where important details have been changed – Avengers: Infinity War has also been trimmed:
