Is the new Apple HomePod a success?
In 2018, Apple launched the HomePod: a smart speaker with voice commands via Siri. It can also serve as a hub for your entire smart home. However, it didn’t sell as well as Apple originally envisioned. The sound was good, but the price too high.
Apple noticed this in time and intervened. The company stopped developing the first HomePod and launched the cheaper HomePod mini in 2021. We saw this officially appear on the market in the Netherlands in 2022. Still, Apple seems to want to give its first approach a second chance. The Cupertino company is coming with a new Apple HomePod, according to Mark Gurman, a renowned Apple analyst. It should appear in 2023.
Specifications new HomePod
The new HomePod resembles the original in size and sound quality, according to Gurman. In addition, however, we will find a new display at the top. This allows you to adjust more than just the volume. This display is rumored to have multi-touch. This means that you operate the smart speaker as you are used to with your iPhone. Incidentally, we are not hearing this for the first time. Before the first HomePod came out, there were similar rumors
If we are allowed to dream, we can imagine a lot of cool things with this multi-touch display. Consider, for example, that you can set what a pinching movement will do. For example, we would link this gesture to closing the smart curtains or locking your smart locks.
The new Apple HomePod must be cheaper
According to Gurman, we’ll probably also see an S8 chip in Apple’s new HomePod, which we expect in the unannounced Apple Watch Series 8. Although this chip would be faster, we don’t expect you to really notice that with a HomePod.
The most important thing for Apple is to keep the price of the new HomePod low. If it becomes as expensive as the last HomePod, we think the smart speaker will flop again. So we are especially curious about the price of the new Apple HomePod.
Will there be no HomePod TV?
Gurman also talked about a new Apple TV in his newsletter. Due to the combination of these two news, we think that unfortunately we will have to wait a while for a hybrid of the HomePod and the Apple TV: the HomePod TV. This Apple multimedia device is rumored to come with TV, audio and even FaceTime.
