Fresh coffee on the go, always a hassle

Coffee is the silent engine of the Dutch economy. You can’t really start the day without a nice cup of coffee, according to the large majority of the Dutch who love coffee. Making a cup of coffee at home is of course easy. Are you on your way? Then you have to rely on a thermos flask or a gas station where you have to drink a watery brew from a good paper or wrong styrofoam cup.

That can and must be done differently, the inventors of the AeroPress Go must have thought. Is their invention the solution to the suffering of lack of morning coffee on the road? We’re going to look at that now.

How does the AeroPress Go work?

The traditional coffee makers as we know them mostly work by slowly dripping almost boiling water. Espresso machines, such as the Senseos, work by wishing high-pressure steam through a filter. The AeroPress Go (€37) is a kind of intermediate.

You place the mug under the “chamber”. You pour hot water into the “chamber”, which you then slowly push through the filter with the “plunger” (piston). The coffee ends up in the mug, where you can dilute it with hot water. For Dutch users, diluting it into weak American coffee is a less attractive option, because we are used to strong coffee.

Removing the coffee and rinsing it is easy. After use, you can store everything compactly in the mug and close it with the flexible lid. In the video below you can see how the brewing process works with the Aeropress Go.

To buy or not to buy?

This smartly designed and compact coffee maker is very useful if you are on the road a lot. Fresh cups of coffee on the go are a scarce commodity and a thermos flask with coffee is at most the next best. Especially if you’ve been on the road for hours. It is also attractive that the device works without electricity, although you must have almost boiling water.

That means you should still have a good thermos flask and fill it with boiling water before you leave. That is another disadvantage, unless you can integrate this into your morning ritual. There are 12 volt kettles available that you can connect to the cigarette lighter of your car.

All in all, the compact Aeropress Go seems to be a useful gadget for coffee lovers on the go who have high demands on the freshness of a cup of coffee.
