Netflix makes profile transfer easier: that’s how it works

Stricter Netflix rules
Last year, Netflix announced that the company wants to end account sharing. Netflix has now introduced the new regulations and the consequences are noticeable. It is now no longer allowed to share an account if you do not live at the same address. If you watch via the account of another household, you have to pay an extra 3.99 euros per month.

Netflix naturally hopes to be able to increase its income considerably with this. Do you have to create your own account due to the new rules? Or switch to another account? Since this week it is possible to transfer your profile to an existing Netflix account. We explain how transferring your profile works on Netflix.
This is how transferring a profile to Netflix works
When you create a new account, Netflix gives you two choices. You can then start from scratch, or import an existing profile from Netflix. The big advantage of transferring an existing profile to Netflix is that all your data will be preserved. This way, Netflix knows exactly which series and films you have already seen, what your viewing list is and which episode you have stayed with.
At first it was only possible to transfer your profile to a new account, but Netflix has changed that. Since this week it is also possible to move your profile to an existing account. For example, you can move your entire profile to the account of a housemate, so that you share the password again within the same household.
To transfer your profile, you must log in to Netflix via your web browser. It is not (yet) possible to export your profile via the Netflix app. It goes like this:
- Go to the Netflix website and tap on your profile;
- Click on your profile picture in the top right corner;
- Choose ‘Transfer profile’;
- Click on ‘Start Profile Transfer’;
- Finally, select which account you want to export the profile to.
After entering the information for the new or existing account, Netflix will start transferring your profile. You can then continue watching your favorite films and series on the new account.
