A week with the Huawei Watch GT 3, what an endurance (adv)

The new Watch GT 3 from Huawei promises a lot of good, but of course we want to see that. That is why we wear this metal smartwatch for a week, for example, we are curious how often we have to charge (Spoiler: not).

Sunday

We start the week with an ‘unpacking party’ for the Huawei Watch GT 3, because the packaging of this smartwatch also looks beautiful. In addition to the smartwatch, we find a charger and some instructional material in the box. Loading the smartwatch is simple, no hassle with pins and the like. You put the smartwatch on the charger and the charging starts, to start our test well, we will start with a full smartwatch and if we can believe Huawei, we will not see the charger again this week (and longer).

Installing the smartwatch is very easy and it works via the app health from the app store of Huawei. In this app you see a tab devices with which you can connect your smartwatch to your smartphone. This all takes a few minutes after which you can immediately start setting up your Huawei Watch GT 3. I like the search and setting of a watchface, in addition to the standard faces you can also search a large database with many hundreds of free and paid watchfaces.

Monday

A smartwatch is a diverse device and where it is used by many for sports and health matters, I also see a smartwatch as a tool when working. I won’t be the only one who receives messages all day long and (too) often picks up his phone to read them. Because I also receive my messages on my smartwatch, I can view them faster and decide whether I should take immediate action on them or not. As a result, I can leave the phone behind and with it the danger of losing myself in all kinds of apps.

In the aforementioned app you can indicate from which apps you want to receive the notifications. If you don’t want to receive anything for a while, activate the do not disturb function on the smartwatch itself.

Tuesday

The smartwatch is at 80% and I have not spared it the past few days because I wear it day and night. The reason I wear it at night is because I want to measure my sleep. A good night’s sleep is one of the most important pillars of good health and a productive day. During this week I will measure my sleep a few times and see if I can improve it with the tips I get via the Huawei app.

The sleep function on the Watch GT 3 measures the three stages of your sleep, light, deep and REM sleep. After you wake up, your night’s sleep gets a score and you can see how peaceful or restless your sleep has been. Next to the score you can see how long you have been in the various stages of your sleep. In addition, you will receive a good and clear explanation of every observation that the app makes with recommendations on how things can be improved. For example, my deep sleep is much too short and I was advised to look at my eating and drinking pattern just before going to sleep.

Incidentally, the Huawei Health app is very well-arranged and shows all information clearly. The interface of the app is divided into clear tiles containing the relevant information. The notifications you receive from the app also help you achieve your goal and can be easily managed from the settings.

Wednesday

I also tried the first sports function today. I had to go to an appointment and decided to take the bike, the weather was nice (more sports also make you sleep better) The Huawei Watch GT 3 offers presets for very sporty activities and of course also for cycling. You can find this by pressing the button at the bottom left and scrolling to the desired training. You can set and start any workout from your smartwatch. During my bike ride, I was kept informed of my efforts via audio and I can see how I’m doing on the large display. It shows what kind of phase you are in the training, because of the headwind I was quite in the combustion phase. After completing my bike ride, I got the opportunity to see my route back in the app. There you will not only see the route you have driven, but also the heart rate you had at that time. Due to the formidable GPS of the Huawei Watch GT 3, the accuracy is great!

Thursday

We have already discussed various possibilities of the smartwatch in combination with the app and yet I discover something different every day. Today I made a full phone call through my Huawei Watch GT 3 because I couldn’t find my phone. You can simply accept and reject phone calls via the screen, for example with a short message. Both the speaker and the microphone work perfectly and the Bluetooth connection with the smartphone is very stable up to 10 meters.

Friday

Today I play a game of padel with my friends and of course I keep track of this with my Huawei Watch GT 3. You can track up to 100 different sports or activities. In addition to the obvious sports such as walking, running and cycling, you can also track skiing and swimming, for example, because this smartwatch has a 5 ATM rating, which means that it can simply go into the pool or the sea.

Due to the combination of all sensors and the smart software, the Huawei Watch GT 3 can also act as a coach while running. In the app you can set different goals with which you will develop a training program. Huawei’s Personal AI Running Coach helps by monitoring your efforts and guiding you until you reach your goals. A goal can be the distance but also a match or other event you want to work towards. Enter everything and a beautiful program will be made for you, all you have to do is run.

Saturday

On weekends we can relax and do things other than work. I listen to a lot of podcasts and music and you can also control these with the Huawei Watch GT 3. On the right side is a large button with a crown that not only looks nice but also has a function. This way you can easily adjust the volume while listening to music or a podcast. Sometimes a mechanical action is just better than a digital one and controlling sound via a rotary knob is just very nice. Of course you can also use the screen to pause the music and skip forward or backward a track.

By the way, I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the smartwatch this week. In addition to all the functionalities, this device also just looks good. I used the 46mm version with the black metal case. The box comes with a neat plastic strap. Huawei offers a very wide range of straps from beautiful leather to sporty and trendy other materials such as cotton. The straps are easy to replace so you can always adapt your smartwatch to your clothing style.

Sunday

The last day of a week with the Huawei Watch GT 3. I had it on 24/7 and used it for notifications, some calls and a total of 4 hours of exercise. In addition, I continuously measured my heart rate and measured with SpO2 (oxygen in the blood) once a day. Many other smartwatches would have been on the charger a number of times already, but not the Huawei Watch GT3. The battery life of this smartwatch is amazing, all the above activities on a 1.4 inch AMOLED screen and the battery is still around 30%. To see how long the smartwatch really lasts, I wore it until it stopped and that was after 12 days(!).

If you are looking for a smartwatch that, in addition to a great appearance, also has the stamina of a top athlete, then the Huawei Watch GT 3 is the right choice. In addition, the smartwatch is bursting with possibilities in the field of sports. A function like the Personal AI Running Coach is a godsend when you train with a goal or event in mind. All these possibilities do not make the Huawei GT 3 a bulky, unattractive smartwatch. In addition to the functional part, the Watch GT 3 is also simply beautiful to see and be seen.
