The most powerful chipset for Android is in the world. 4 nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 comes with a number of improvements
American chip manufacturer Qualcomm today introduced the chipset for next year’s flagships on its official website Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It brings several innovations either in the processor architecture or in the graphics core.
Qualcomm’s first 4 nm chipset will appeal to gaming features
The new chipset was originally expected to be called Qualcomm Snapdragon 898. However, the manufacturer decided to completely change the labeling, which probably means a new era of the highest class of chipsets. Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is his first chipset produced by a 4 nm production process.
The processor is built on the ARMv9 design with a primary Cortex-X2 core with a frequency of 3 GHz. It is complemented by three powerful Cortex-A710 cores with a frequency of 2.5 GHz and four economical Cortex-A510 cores with a frequency of 1.8 GHz. The processor should be 20 times more powerful and 30% more economical than the processor in the previous generation Snapdragon 888.
The new graphics core promises a 30% increase in performance and up to 25% energy savings. Qualcomm has developed three Elite Gaming features, one of which will allow developers to strike a balance between performance and energy efficiency. The Adreno Frame Motion Engine allows you to render a game with double the FPS using the same amount of power or keep the FPS halved.
Qualcomm also brings a desktop feature called Volumetric lighting, which is used for dramatic lighting effects, such as God rays. Also new is Variable Rate Shading Pro, an image VRS that should streamline the integration of VRS into multiple games. Qualcomm has worked closely with game developers to integrate new features.
Another improvement is the 18-bit image processor (ISP), which should provide smartphones with the ability to record 8K HDR videos. The camera’s primary sensor can have a resolution of up to 200 megapixels. New AI functions are supposed to help eliminate noise and improve results in poor lighting conditions.
Better connectivity, audio transmission and also security
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 also offers excellent connectivity. There is a 5G modem Snapdragon X65 5G with support for sub-6 and mmWave bands with a theoretical download speed of up to 10 Gbps. Thanks to the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 modem, support for Wi-Fi 6 / 6E with a speed of 3.6 Gbps is also available, and Bluetooth has also been improved. The new chip can transmit lossless CD quality sound via Bluetooth LE.
Broadcast Audio allows one source to broadcast one or more audio streams to an unlimited number of receivers. Stereo recording supports reverse voice channels. Qualcomm has also improved the security chip by integrating the Trust Management Engine, which will be located under the hypervisor (first introduced in Qualcomm Snapdragon 888).
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 should appear in the expected flagship Xiaomi 12 next month. Once launched, it will be tested in several benchmarks, which will give us a closer idea of its performance. The chipset is also available in Motorola edge x30, Realme GT 2 Pro and OnePlus 10 Pro smartphones.
