Nokia 9 PureView may forget update to Android 11

Striking news about the Nokia 9 PureView. An update to Android 11 is no longer available for the device that was released with a focus on the camera. The smartphone came on the market at the beginning of 2019, and was also available in the Netherlands.

No Android 11 for 9 PureView

The Nokia 9 PureView was announced in March 2019. The smartphone stood out because of its many cameras. At the back of the device, no fewer than five cameras were placed, in order to offer the best camera quality. HMD Global released the smartphone with Android 9 Pie. An update to Android 10 later appeared. Although the company promised to provide updates for two years, the Nokia 9 PureView seems to be an exception. An update to Android 11 is not included for the Nokia 9 PureView.

The information about this comes from Nokia’s official website in Poland. According to Nokia, the main reason for the decision is the camera experience and the features. The camera software and features on the Nokia 9 PureView would not be compatible with Android 11, thus losing the power of the smartphone. The innovative camera of the 9 PureView is central, that is the thinking of Nokia.

In Poland, HMD Global does have a ‘saving agent’. Those with a Nokia 9 PureView receive a 50 percent discount on a new smartphone from Nokia with Android 11. This saving grace is only available in Poland for the time being, but it is not inconceivable that it will be introduced in more countries.
